OCTOBER 12th
Pirates - Curse of the Black Pearl - Back stage tour, dress rehearsal and evening concert. 
There are limited offers available for the Pirates CSO concert at night. There are also spaces for our special backstage tour offer (11.30am) and for the dress rehearsal (12.30) on the last Saturday of the holidays. Back Stage will be interesting for any sound/light/video tech-minded students and dress rehearsal fantastic for any music students and families. You can attend both if you want to! Sign up is on the music website under CSO ambassador. Note this is a full orchestra concert with movie and choir!!!

JON SHONE seminar
Jon Shone will be talking about the fascinating life behind the scenes of One Direction and his music career.
When: Thursday Oct 10th, 10.30-11.30am
Where: Chisnallwood Intermediate School, Breezes Road, Christchurch 8061
Cost: $10 entry 
There is also a seminar at 1pm at Jazz School for Tertiary students.
After leaving University, Jon began his career as a Piano Teacher in North London. In 2008, Jon decided he wanted to move on and within 5 years has built his career to become known as one of the major Musical Directors in the industry. Currently, he is looking after all aspects of live music for the world’s biggest boy band, One Direction.
From 2008-2013 Jon has worked with Katy Perry, Marina and the Diamonds, Taio Cruz, X-Factor, Bryan Adams, Jessica Mau-boy, Olly Murs, Ndubz, Pixie Lott and Tulisa, to name a few. His Arranging, performances and recordings can be seen and heard on iTunes, concert DVD's and on the last 4 years of Radio 1’s Best of Live Lounge albums.
Spending the last 2 years with One Direction, 2013 sees Jon's biggest project to date. Musically Directing and playing Keyboards for a colossal 9 month world tour, visiting 131 arenas over 5 continents. Along side this, filming and arranging music for the 1D 3D Movie which was realeased in August.
In the Access All Areas Q&A, Jon will talk about life at the top of the industry, the highs and lows, the pressures and successes of working in pop music and what it’s really like on the inside.
“If this kind of knowledge was available to me when I was learning, it would have been invaluable’!

The awesome opportunity to take part in workshops with legends Dr Dave Lisik and Dr Rodger Fox! Great for anyone wanting to learn more about jazz, or who want the chance to play in a workshopping jazz band under expert directors Rodger Fox (for youth) or Dave Lisik (for adults)! And check out Dave's "Learning Jazz Vocabulary: Theory and Swing" workshop too! Tell your friends and family and come as a group!

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Saturday 12th October, 7.00pm (END OF HOLIDAYS)
CBS Canterbury Arena
For the first time in New Zealand the movie that began Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series will be screened accompanied live by the CSO. 70 musicians and a choir will perform the film’s original soundtrack as this magical fantasy with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) unfolds.
The next day students have an opportunity for a backstage production tour

Music News Sept 12

  • Day visit and combined orchestra and band concert at 1.45pm by 78 boys from Sydney Grammar school, Monday Sept 16th
  • Chisnallwood Ukuleles, Marimba and Recorder players performing at the Strum Strike Blow Festival, Wed Sept 18th in the CBS Canterbury Arena with around 800 students from about schools. Rehearsal during the day 9.30am-2.30pm. Performance at 7pm-8.30pm - donation entry for audience. Details at www.strumstrikeblow.org
  • Theory exam entries due Sept 20th - and also ticket orders for Pirates of the Caribbean CSO concert due on Sept 20th (Both sign ups are on the www.chisnallwoodmusic.org.nz)

CSO ORCHESTRA CONCERTS 
Don't forget you can sign up for free tickets to the CSO Pirates of the Caribbean concert on October 12th (last weekend of the holidays) - but spaces for this are limited. It will sell out. Tech students can also sign up for the back stage tour the following day! Please sign up no later than September 20th.
